The mission of Academic Aftercare is to help every child reach his or her potential by fostering academic growth. Academic Aftercare exists to serve families by supporting the unique academic and emotional needs of students. Academic Aftercare is committed to creating and maintaining an orderly, trusting, and caring environment where learning is exciting and students are assisted with academic support centered and designed to accommodate individual learning styles so that all may experience success.

Our Vision is to provide academic support so families can have more time for fun and adventure!


About Us:

Everything your student does at our program has an academic focus whether the student knows it or not! Activities include but are not limited to: homework helper sessions, language arts center, math center, listening center, technology center with academic web sites, and academic board games.

All centers focus specifically on the curriculum benchmarks and target skills required for each grade level. Language arts and math centers are guided by Florida certified teachers with a Master's degree in education. In addition, we have Spanish, chess, and art lessons.

Academic Aftercare offers transportation from various elementary schools and may currently have openings for your student. General Information:

    • Registration and emergency medical forms are required for all campers

 ACADEMICS

 MATH MASTER
6th grade only: Weeks 4, & 6 (9AM-12PM)

This course is designed to prepare your student for upcoming sixth grade middle school math concepts and topics.

MULTIPLICATION MADNESS
3rd - 6th Week   5 (9AM-12PM)

Get a great jump start for third grade or just simply become more proficient with your multiplication skills. This course offers memorization techniques, drills and practice with multiplication facts 1-12 as well as an opportunity for some TIVITZ challenge!

READING & COMPREHENSION
3rd - 6th : Week 1 (9AM-12PM)
K - 2: Week 6 (9AM-12PM)
K - 2: Week 3 (1PM-4PM)


With an emphasis on phonics, your student will learn a variety of strategies and techniques to decode words and increase reading fluency. Students will also review comprehension strategies known as making connections, questioning, visualizing, inferring, determining importance, and synthesizing to improve comprehension.

STUDY SKILLS
4th: Week  4 (9AM-12PM)
5th - 6th: Week 6 (9AM-12PM)

This important course teaches students how to become more organized in every way - from their notebook, classroom, to home. Curriculum includes a homework survival kit, strategies for taking notes, test-taking techniques, brain based learning, and much more.

WEIRD SCIENCE
K-2: Week 1 (9AM-12PM)
3rd - 6th: Weeks 5 & 6 (1PM-4PM)
K-2: Weeks 7 & 8 (1PM-4PM)

If you were a famous mad scientist, which mad scientist would you be? Have you ever wondered how smoke machines work or wanted to make your own smoke or fog? Science is full of pops, sparks, and amazing reactions. Weird Science inspires students through an interactive environment of discovery that ignites the imagination.

WRITER’S WORKSHOP & PUBLISHER
K-2: Week 5 (9AM-12PM)
3rd - 6th: Weeks  4, & 6 (9AM-12PM)

Writer's Workshop is a teaching technique that invites students to write by making the process a meaningful experience. The Writer's Workshop format includes story planning, revision, teacher editing, and direct instruction in the mechanics of grammar. Students will love to have their writing typeset and "published" on the computer and bound with their selected illustrations.


 FINE ARTS

AWESOME ART
K-6: Weeks 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5

FLORA & FAUNA OF FLORIDA: K-6TH

WEEK 1 (1-4p)

Kids create artwork inspired from the Florida environment. Using a variety of media from colored pencil, to watercolor, clay and paper mache’, students will study native plants and animal habitat of Florida to make beautiful art pieces.

RACE TO OUTER SPACE: K-6TH

WEEK 2 (9a-12p)

Come explore the galaxies and create artwork that will take you to other worlds! From Alien creatures drawn out of your imagination to moving mobiles of planets and soaring spaceships. Let’s design and build our own planetarium with constellations that glow and make us wonder what’s beyond.

PAINT LIKE A MASTER: K-6TH

WEEK 3 (9a-12p)

Learn to draw and paint like the Master Artists DaVinci, Monet, and Picasso. We will study and copy the artist’s styles and techniques as we master their works as well as develop our own style.

GO GREEN: K-6TH

WEEK 4 (1-4pm)

Learn to make paper from lint from your dryer, turn a plastic bottle into a beautiful sculpture inspired from Chihuly glass artist. Save our planet as we go green and turn junk thrown away into a beautiful piece of art.

ART ALL AROUND
K-6: Weeks 5, 6, 7 (1PM-4PM)
Week 8 (9AM-12PM)

ART & ARCHITECTURE

WEEK 6 (9a-12p)

Are you considering becoming an artist, designer or architect? Many geometric principles are used by artists and architects in their work. Come explore the many three dimensional shapes we can use to design our products.

LOTS OF LEGOS
Weeks 7 (9AM-12PM)
Weeks 3, 6, &  8 (1PM-4PM)

Students examine and experiment with a variety of basic and technic parts including spur gears, worm gears, crown gears, rack gears, beams, connector pegs, universal joints among others. During discussion, various applications towards "simple machines" will be introduced.

 

 

 

 

                                          FULL DAY PROGRAM $145 per week

 

 

Our full day program is like no other camp around! It is truly designed to provide students academic enrichment. Students will participate in summer bridge activities in reading, writing, and math as well as having fine arts enrichment in areas such as art, sign language, and chess. While working in small groups with the teacher, the students will dive into each individual curriculum topic. Target skills and topics will change for each week for the full day program; therefore, a student may sign up for more than one week of our full day program and will be exposed to new material each week.
